Crawford hampered by injury in snowboard opener

An injury to Holly Crawford has marred the start of the 2008/2009 World Cup season for Australia’s snowboard halfpipe team.

Competing in Cardrona, New Zealand, Crawford was unable to make it past the qualifying round after a fall in training aggravated a pre-existing bulging disc problem in her back.

Wang, Fernandez crowned national champions

OWI scholarship holders Tina Wang and Nicholas Fernandez have been crowned national ladies' and men's figure skating champions after both placed second to New Zealand skaters at the national championships in August. [more]

Record ten snowboarders turn out for World Cup opening

Australia will send an unprecedented ten snowboard athletes into World Cup action in this coming week, as the 2008/09 World Cup season gets underway in New Zealand and Argentina.

In what is a crucial lead-up to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, World Cup results in the second half of the season will help determine Olympic qualification.
