Olympic champion in Sydney to work with Cheltzie Lee

Olympic figure skating gold medallist Robin Cousins is in Sydney to work with Australia’s Vancouver surprise skating star Cheltzie Lee. Cousins, who won gold in Lake Placid in 1980, has since become best known as choreographer and artistic director for the hugely successful ‘Holiday on Ice’, as well as being head judge for the UK ‘Dancing on Ice’ TV series. Vancouver Olympians celebrated in Sydney

The success of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympics teams was celebrated in Sydney over the weekend, at a welcome home function hosted by the Australian Olympic Committee. Vancouver 2010 provided a brilliant conclusion to the Olympic Winter Institute’s 2006/7-2009/10 quadrennium, as Australia’s winter sports athletes collected a record medal haul. For the first time, the nation could proudly claim three Winter Games medallists, as well as a string of other top ten placings. [more]

Vancouver Olympians to launch new winter sports home

A figure skating exhibition by 16-year-old Vancouver Olympian Cheltzie Lee will highlight the launch of the Olympic Winter Institute’s new home at the Ice House, Docklands, Melbourne, on Tuesday evening, March 30. Lee, back in Australia after competing at the World Figure Skating Championships in Torino over the weekend, will be joined at the launch by Vancouver gold medallist Lydia Lassila, aerial skiing team-mate Jacqui Cooper and the world’s number two snowboard cross athlete, Alex “Chumpy” Pullin. Lee continues to shine

Cheltzie Lee has taken another step toward the ranks of the world’s elite figure skaters, delivering a personal best score on her way to 17th place at the 2010 World Championships in Torino, Italy. Just a month after finishing in 20th position at Vancouver 2010, Lee skated to a 17th placing in her short program, then followed up with a personal best score of 86.42 in her free program for 17th overall. Despite missing out on an Olympic qualifying place at the recent Nebelhorn Trophy, Australian figure skater Cheltzie Lee could still find herself at the Games, though her fate is totally out of her own hands. [more]

Lee slips to seventh in Junior Grand Prix

Cheltzie Lee has slipped back two places to finish in seventh position in the Junior Grand Prix in Dresden, Germany. Lee posted a personal best score of 45.87 points for fifth place after the short program, but could only manage seventh in her free program for seventh overall. [more]
