Vancouver Olympians celebrated in Sydney

The success of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympics teams was celebrated in Sydney over the weekend, at a welcome home function hosted by the Australian Olympic Committee. The night featured speeches from Australian Olympic Committee President John Coates, Vancouver Olympic Team Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman and Gold Medallist Lydia Lassila. [more]

Vancouver 2010 provided a brilliant conclusion to the Olympic Winter Institute’s 2006/7-2009/10 quadrennium, as Australia’s winter sports athletes collected a record medal haul. Vancouver Olympians to launch new winter sports home

A figure skating exhibition by 16-year-old Vancouver Olympian Cheltzie Lee will highlight the launch of the Olympic Winter Institute’s new home at the Ice House, Docklands, Melbourne, on Tuesday evening, March 30. Lee, back in Australia after competing at the World Figure Skating Championships in Torino over the weekend, will be joined at the launch by Vancouver gold medallist Lydia Lassila, aerial skiing team-mate Jacqui Cooper and the world’s number two snowboard cross athlete, Alex “Chumpy” Pullin. Hay on top in battle for Olympic place

Lachlan Hay has defeated close friend and housemate Jeremy Beck in the battle for Australia’s one male short track speed skating berth at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Hay outskated Beck in a time trial, covering the 1000m distance two seconds faster than his AIS/OWI team-mate, then came out on top in a head to head match race to clinch the Games position. [more]

Borodulina clinches Australian places in Vancouver

Tatiana Borodulina has qualified Australian places for all three short track distances at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, following the completion of the North American leg of the World Cup season. Borodulina finished sixth in the 1000m, and also collected two 12th placings in 500m and 1500m at the Marquette, Wisconsin, event. [more]
