Kneller and Crema collect gold at Hotham

Scott Kneller has maintained the great form that took him to seventh place at Vancouver 2010 in February, winning both rounds of the Australia New Zealand Cup ski cross at Hotham.

Olympic team-mate Katya Crema also made the podium in both races, winning the first then collecting silver in the second. [more]




Chairlift named for Lassila as season kicks off

Olympic Winter Institute athletes and Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holders Lydia Lassila, Alex Pullin, Joh Shaw and Katya Crema helped kick off the 2010 ski season at Mt Buller over the weekend. All four Vancouver Olympians were guests at the OWI’s Masquerade Cocktail Party on Sunday evening, a fundraiser for the Institute, and also took part in other events where they were happy to tell the story of their Olympic experiences and their plans for the future. OWI Deputy Chair elected to FIS Council

Deputy Chairman of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia Dean Gosper is the latest Australian to win a key position in global sport. Gosper, son of International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Kevan Gosper, and President of Ski & Snowboard Australia, has been elected to the International Ski Federation (FIS) Council which controls skiing and snowboarding worldwide. Vancouver Olympians celebrated in Sydney

The success of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympics teams was celebrated in Sydney over the weekend, at a welcome home function hosted by the Australian Olympic Committee. The night featured speeches from Australian Olympic Committee President John Coates, Vancouver Olympic Team Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman and Gold Medallist Lydia Lassila. [more]

Vancouver 2010 provided a brilliant conclusion to the Olympic Winter Institute’s 2006/7-2009/10 quadrennium, as Australia’s winter sports athletes collected a record medal haul. For the first time, the nation could proudly claim three Winter Games medallists, as well as a string of other top ten placings. [more]

Lassila and Bright share Ski & Snowboard Australia top award

Vancouver 2010 gold medallists Lydia Lassila and Torah Bright are the joint recipients of the Ski & Snowboard Australia Athlete of the Year award for 2010. It was the second consecutive award for Lassila, who set a new Olympic record in claiming aerial skiing gold and also jumped to a world record score on her way to a World Cup victory in Deer Valley in the lead-up to the Games. Formidable freestyle skiing team named

Australia has a strong Olympic history in freestyle skiing and this medal success looks set to continue at the Vancouver Games.
